Barbara J. Harvey, Moderator, was born and raised in Massachusetts. She attended a small liberal arts college in Yankton, SD, double majoring in Criminal Justice and Sociology. She was awarded a two year ROTC scholarship at the end of her sophomore year. At graduation she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Transportation Corps and assigned to Ft. Eustis, VA. While on active duty Barbara continued her education with George Washington University, Hampton VA campus, and graduated in 1988 with a MA in Human Resources.
After serving in the US Army, she pursued the field of Human Resources. Ultimately, she obtained employment with a large DoD contractor, providing transition services for service members and their families leaving active duty. Her work concentrated on job skills training and educational/vocational retraining opportunities.
This experience led her to her first job as a case manager with a large national case management company. In this position she served as a vocational rehabilitation case manager, while pursuing national certification.
Eventually she earned both the CDMS and CCM designations, gained certified by DOL/OWCP and began her own case management company nine years ago.
She and her staff of five provide medical and vocational case management services for worker’s compensation and DOL/OWCP claims. They have begun vocational expert work for marriage dissolution cases.
